Why do humans reproduce? Can we become reproduction hesitant and deny having babies?

Reproduction is one of the fundamental traits of living organisms. A non-living object can not create one of its own. But the question is why humans or any other species would like to reproduce? How come the instinct inherently comes to their mind that drives them to reproduce?

Living in a highly civilized modern human society we can say that it is our choice to have a baby or not but throughout the animal kingdom or every living organism, it is not a conscious decision to create an offspring or many of them. The instinct comes naturally to them by passing through generations. But how come they inherently and automatically know the importance of reproduction? How come they don’t let their species go extinct? How come one non-intelligent animal is aware of its whole species and plays an important part to keep it flourishing? Why do humans and other animals and the whole living world want to have babies?

Before we get to the answer to the titled question we need to see what happens if a species hesitates to reproduce. It is the one and only method to pass on millions of years of learning and achievement of evolution from parents’ genes to their offspring. During the reproduction phase genes get a chance to mutate resulting in other branches of evolution. Hesitation to reproduction will keep species refraining from using these advantages and eventually, it will face a survival crisis.

What is the power of creation?

Now it’s a no-brainer that a completely hesitant species towards reproduction will eventually make it extinct but an individual animal such as a lion or an ant or a snail is not aware of its whole species still it reproduces. Even humans who are aware of their species still don’t reproduce for the sake of species survival. So why do they do it?

The answer is quite simple but if tell you in an easy peasy way you would not give it a thought and won’t care much and forget it? Maybe you won’t believe it so I would go through a rather complex way of answering…….No, I am just kidding. In fact, the answer is in one line and that is -Evolution favours the organisms or species which are not hesitant to reproduce and pass this gene to other generations.

That means if there are two species one likes to reproduce and pass these genes to another generation and the other one just doesn’t wanna have babies. Throughout time the second species will be weeded out and only the first kind of species would be there with organisms having the desire and instinct of reproduction in their genes.

So there is no set rule made by some higher power that forces us to have babies but there might be some species lived that did not have genes to pass through the instinct to reproduce. Those species probably had been there but we don’t know them because they were weeded out in their first generations and in the very early phase of evolution and seem like never existed.

Now through millions of years, we have only the traits of reproduction remaining that go through from one generation to the next one. Now no species whether it is aware of its species and the importance of reproduction will reproduce as many times as possible.

But what about us humans who are far more intelligent to understand the instinct and desire and aware of their species who also have managed to have sex without concern about babies then why do we still want to have our own babies?

The answer is again quite simple and that is the power of creation. What it is? Tell me what is the one thing that can make you utterly happy? Is it money, sex, influence or anything else? It is the power to create something that is the one and only thing that is extraordinary and makes you utterly happy.

It makes you feel divine. It is not only limited to having babies only but anything that one might create makes one feel divine but unfortunately other than babies we humans can not create anything. What? Yes! Correct. We can build machines and products from machines or build huge skyscrapers, design software or stupid apps but in reality, we just transforming something into something.

We need some raw materials to build something. Still, when someone designs some software, constructs some buildings or innovates a new technology they feel immense pleasure. Now having babies is the one and only thing which we humans feel to create out of nothing. We create something alive apparently out of nothing that gives us the feeling of having divine power.

We experience utter happiness and feel proud to say it is mine and automatically love it. We experience the power which is only divine to create something completely out of nothing which has life. Unconsciously we humans tend to feel that power and have babies without even concerning about our human species.

Can we deny having babies?

Now there are concerns raised by some sociologists, or scientists or popularly by Elon Musk about population shrinkage. We have already witnessed this in some countries such as Bulgaria, Lithuania, Ukraine etc and some other countries are soon expected to witness a population decline such as Japan, Korea or the USA. But is it possible that we completely deny having babies? Can we become completely reproduction hesitant? Is it possible?

The theory of evolution suggests otherwise.

As I have mentioned already and by the law of natural selection those traits that make human reproduction reluctant will not be passed on further as evolution will favour only those traits that are likely to produce offspring. Over time traits that make us willing to reproduce will prevail and those traits responsible for making human reproduction reluctant will be weeded out naturally.
