The dirty game of caste system in Indian politics

India is the Largest democracy in the world. However, only the vastness can’t symbolize greatness. Indian democracy is fabricated by the Indian political system and nobody can deny the various flaws on each fabric. Several books have been written and a lot of researches have been done on Indian political system – its greatness and its flaws. This article is based on the caste mobilizing in elections and declination from the ability and quality of candidates.

The Utopianz

Indian electoral system is one of the founding fabric on which this political system has been structured. Anyone beyond the age of 18 can cast a vote. Now, this article will discuss the tendency of voters while casting their vote to choose a new policymaker for them. There are several other flaws that affect voter’s mindset to press an EVM button or fold a ballet paper but the caste factor is the one that forces the public to think beyond their other interests.

The phenomenon of casting vote on the basis of caste is spreading and getting stronger across the nation. A leader of Aam Admi Party Ashutosh once had claimed that his party asked him to use his surname “Gupta” during the campaign of assembly election because there was a majority of this particular community in that constituency. We keep singing the song of secularism and unity in diversity but the harsh truth is that no Hindu candidate can win an election in Muslim majority areas and if we talk about a Muslim leader he or she can’t even dream of winning in Hindu majority constituency. The same tendency is seen in the caste system. An OBC candidate must be fielded in OBC majority areas, a forward caste candidate will never be assume a good choice for Dalit constituency. Same thing is true for other castes.

The formation of political parties in India is based upon the caste system. From North to South there are several regional parties establishing themselves as a representative of a particular caste. Shivsena in Maharashtra entice only Maratha voters, All India United democratic Front (AIUDF) represents Muslims in Assam. In Bihar JD(U) has voters among the OBC and LJP seeking its future in Dalit interest. Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party are practising the same way of Bihar politics respectively. JD(S) shows its interest in the peasant community while the Telugu Desam Party is considered as a pro-Telugu party. These kinds of structures is very dangerous for the future of Indian democracy and in every election caste fanatics and identity insecurity are increasing among the voters of India.

This behaviour shows that in India we never count education, experience, ability and leadership primarily. All the other factors will come after noticing his/her caste. Only a superstar candidate can overcome this caste system and go beyond that. Nevertheless in this case also people vote according to his/her stardom and no one bother oneself to inspect his/her ability, quality and education. A particular candidate can easily win any election in India if he/she possesses an ability to entice the majority of voters to belong to his/her caste. Now the candidate is assumed to be the flag-bearer of its community and now he/she can enjoy the power without doing any development work or any other important jobs.
